Olesia Anderson, corporate spy-for-hire, is headed to Venice for what's supposed to be a low-key fraud investigation job. Step 1 steal financial data from Aureo Real Estate. Step 2 deliver it to the client. Step 3 enjoy some private time with a pair of gorgeous Italian twins, eat gelato and get a tan, all paid for by Olesia's mysterious employers, the Blackrock Association.
But Olesia's only been in town a day when she uncovers a multi-million Euro insurance scam built upon a foundation of heroin and Semtex. Somebody has a lot of money invested in Venice... enough that they'd be willing to kill to protect it.
The bodies are piling up fast, and the simple job has soon become a desperate struggle to survive in a city of secrets. Olesia will be lucky to get out with her hide intact... if she gets out at all.
Burning Bridges is a 37,500 word espionage-thriller filled with explosions, steamy liaisons and down-and-dirty murder, all set in Europe's most romantic city. 18+ only!
Burning Bridges Olesia Anderson #5 edition by D D Marks Romance eBooks
He's done it again! After the brave experiment that was Double Down, D.D Marks has come up with the best setting for an 806 novel yet - Venice!Marks demonstrates his constant drive to refine and improve his writing by getting all the elements just right for this setting. The action is balanced perfectly by the tense plot development, which itself is brilliantly crafted. The dialogue is funny, fast, and typical off-the-cuff Olesia Anderson banter. Character relationships seem to have developed in just the way you would expect between books 4 and 5, but these changes don't take centre-stage, letting the explosions and gritty fights scenes do the talking. And of course, I have to mention the sexy bits - well, just one bit, but quality definitely beats quantity in this case.
The thing I liked most about this installment was the descriptions of the Venetian surroundings. Marks has a real talent for describing cities and the people that live in them. Perhaps I have a strong mental image of what Venice might look like anyway, frequently referenced as a location by Bond movies and videogames, but Marks managed to take my expectations and twist them into the kind of observations that a jaded, spy-for-hire with penchant for trouble might have.
It's without a doubt his best work so far, a gripping read (I'm writing this after my second read) and I have no doubt that even better things are going to be coming. Read this series!

Burning Bridges Olesia Anderson #5 edition by D D Marks Romance eBooks Reviews
Every book, every time.
Love that fast paced high action intensity that is so tough to find.
Next please!
Can't wait for the series to continue.
In my review of Double Down Part 2, I made the comment that DD Marks seemed to be maturing....and I was right. He has matured, and has blown me away with this latest instalment of the Olesia Anderson series.
Seriously, I devoured this book, it kept me up until the early hours of the morning as I did not want to put it down. The story moves at a fantastic pace and is full of tantalising intrigue. The action sequences were truly thrilling, literally got my heart racing, and the gritty reality of the violent encounters offers a depth previously missing in the Olesia books - think less Michael Bay and more David Fincher.
I also commented in my last review that I was disappointed in the lack of sexiness throughout Olesia 4.2. Again, DD Marks satisfied my cravings. Without any spoilers, there's a lot to be said for quality over quantity ;)
This was definitely my favourite of the Olesia series so far, and I recommend it vehemently to any who have read the previous novels. I recommend it hesitantly to any newcomers only in that the character's back stories will help them better appreciate the growth of both the characters and the writer toward this point. Seriously, best yet. Thanks Marks, keep em coming!
Olesia is a great character5. Action packed, sexy, funny! A quick, entertaining read. I highly recommend this series and all DD Mark's book!
Burning Bridges was not quite what I expected. Good read, steamy in parts. Enjoyed, look forward to another Anderson thriller
Burning bridges appears to be a 'graduated' entry into the series. While the book doesn't expect you to have read her previous books, regular readers will notice Olesia's skills have once again improved. 806 is now at a point where she's comfortable with her strengths (seduction, blowing sh*t up) and weaknesses (over-active morals).
Burning Bridges was one of my favorite books in the series because I get this expected flippant mix of morality-through-descructuon logic, but with brand new book 5 upgrades and skillets! I know Olesia, but I have no idea what she's learned in the time since her last book.
It's raunchy, fast, funny and super hard to put down. Also, there is a speedboat. 5stars.
Olesia Anderson has never been very good at doing what she's told, and that just makes her adventures all the more fun, hair-raising and exciting for us! Burning Bridges sees Olesia sent off to Venice to complete a seemingly simple job find out what Realta Realty are really up to, and collect the evidence that they're up to no good. Naturally, this involves crazy sex, motor boat races through the chanel, and discovering that someone is running around killing people, and making it look like a heroin overdose. All in a good day's work! This adventure is a bit on the crazy side, but it works! I didn't want to put this novella down and raced to pick it up again at every opportunity. This series is a must read!
